Black fairy dolls for IDEX are done!

These are my black girl dress-up fairies that I just finished! They were tons of fun! I had never made fairy wings before and I had a photography deadline so it was an interesting day.
The wings are three layers of dyed silk organza fused together with wire in between two of the layers. I kept them pretty plain because the dresses had enough going on but you could jazz them up quite a bit! Most of the trims, lace and ribbons for this whole piece ended up in the dye bath. It really doesn't matter what color they start out at if it is a light color. You can dip it enough times and end up with a color that matches.
I have these fabulous dyes called "Colorhue". They are instant, permanent and easy. Such fun!

It's cold out there!

It's a little warmer today - only -8. Yesterday it was -20. It hurts to go outside. Good thing I am so busy working I only have to look out there!
Today I am finishing up the sculpting on this set of black girls. I sculpted their hands yesterday, today I will do their arms. They will be sculpted almost up to the shoulder.
IDEX is coming up!! I leave in two weeks.....

Color for IDEX!

After working with whites and pinks I am breaking out into some color for these last two dolls I am doing for IDEX!! I think I settled on blue and green but that is likely to change as I go. You just never know. They will have a little more glitz than the others!
Today I am working on the dolls' bodies - wire, tubing, foil, batting, fabric - fun!! I found some cotton/silk batting which I absolutely love. I used to buy it from Joanne's but they discontinued it. So now I found it online at www.fabricshack.com! It is the best - made by Mountain Mist.

IDEX Doll Show

Did I tell you that IDEX is coming up???!!! I can't remember. All I know is that I only have about two weeks to finish up. I have four dolls ready and four in the makings. I will post pictures as soon as I get them.
This week I sculpted a small baby/toddler and two heads! Now I have my fabrics all scattered about trying to design outfits for the two heads I did. I ran out of clay and will finish the dolls when the clay gets here next week! Not a good time to run out. Let's hope my sewing machine won't give out. It has been making strange noises lately.
I will worry about that on Monday.

January

January will find me working 15 hours a day...laying awake thinking of what I should do the next day....getting so many ideas that I can't possibly do them all....
My studio is a real mess right now. Should clean up.....but I am working on a head now that needs to get done!!
I would include a picture if I could find my camera....
